01Three ETFE membranes
Tests published in 2026 on ETFE cushions indicate that moving from two to three films nearly doubled thermal resistance. The result still depends on geometry, temperature difference and the actual envelope system that is built.

Reducing ventilation allows tighter CO₂ control around the crop, but a closed greenhouse is never perfectly airtight. A study of an unventilated greenhouse measured an average CO₂-use efficiency of 45.5%, highlighting the importance of airtightness, wind, sensors and dosing matched to actual plant uptake.

In two instrumented semi-closed greenhouses in Belgium, measured energy savings were 13% and 28% compared with reference compartments. In one case, exhaust-air heat recovery supplied the equivalent of 12% of total heat demand.

An experimentally validated dynamic model for a semi-closed tomato greenhouse estimated about 43 kWh/m² per year of recoverable energy, corresponding to potential savings of 24%. This benchmark must be recalculated for Quebec climate and the selected Archvantis configuration.
